FAQs
Are there any requirements to volunteer for Selfless?
No, our vision is to share any piece of knowledge, skill or resource that you have with those that are less fortunate across the world. For example, if you are an IT expert we could use your skills in developing computing facilities at our planned resource centre in Bangladesh. Whatever you offer, we will make sure that your skills are utilised efficiently, we will empower you to make a difference.
Volunteer online, tell us about your skills and let’s make change happen.
Who are you targeting?
We are particularly interested in, but not limited to, the diaspora community residing in the UK. We understand that there are many diaspora communities in the UK that have offered financial and professional support to their countries ‘back home’. These communities have a great insight of what is required to help their countries of heritage progress.
We argue that rather than giving continuous financial support, we want young people that have been educated and trained in the UK to share what they have learnt with their counterparts abroad. This will empower them and help them bring about change to their communities.
Are your projects limited to Bangladesh?
We are currently running a few projects focusing on Bangladesh; there is a great need as almost half of the population is living below the poverty line. However our vision is global, we want to fight poverty and disease wherever it is in the world.
If you have an idea that you would like to get started do not hesitate to get in touch with us, info@selfless.org.uk
Do I have to travel abroad?
No, empowering communities can happen here on your doorstep. Selfless have begun a number of ‘Healthy Living’ workshops here in the UK, educating adults in taking an active interest in their health and wellbeing.
Volunteers can work with Selfless to continue providing services abroad but we also can work on ideas to help our local communities. ‘Think global, act local’, why not start homework clubs or afterschool tutoring? It is only through educating the next generation that we can ensure this movement to bring change continues.
Have I missed the deadline?
