Getting Started

Selfless aims to support disadvantaged people from across the world in fulfilling their rights to physical, mental and social wellbeing.

There is a vicious cycle of poor health, poverty and social exclusion. Inequalities in wealth and limited access to basic services in healthcare and education stops people achieving their true potential.

If you want to do something practical to improve life for the poorest people in the world, volunteering with us just might be the answer.

You might be wondering, can I really make a meaningful contribution to the lives of others? Have a look at our current projects below and think about a single skill that you can offer. We will match your skills with a project, or even explore new ideas, to enable you to enrich the lives of others. We hope you can join us.

Projects

Travel Insurance

We consider adequate travel insurance to be essential. In particular we require that you have extensive medical travel insurance cover. It is important to check that you are covered for doing the voluntary work as well as any activities you may do. Please note that many of the travel insurance policies that are available will NOT cover you while you are doing a volunteer placement.

FAQs

Are there any requirements to volunteer for Selfless?

No, our vision is to share any piece of knowledge, skill or resource that you have with those that are less fortunate across the world. For example, if you are an IT expert we could use your skills in developing computing facilities at our planned resource centre in Bangladesh.  Whatever you offer, we will make sure that your skills are utilised efficiently, we will empower you to make a difference.

Fundraising

We encourage volunteers to raise the majority of the overall cost of the placement.

Volunteers are also encouraged to consider further fundraising either to take as a donation or after you return, to give as longer term support to the project you will work with. Selfless will also put on a number of events throughout the year such as tube collections and charity dinners to help us support our projects.
