Resource Centre

Although some countries have made progress in promoting literacy among children and adults, it continues to remain a major challenge throughout the world. Having access to a ‘literate environment’ has been identified as one of the important factors in increasing literacy rates. Our first Resource Centre, which will be a hub for teaching and learning, is planned in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Building brighter futures
We plan to provide a workshop space within our centre for our volunteers from the UK who can offer support, short courses and training to the local population in a number of areas, including small business development, marketing, healthcare and teacher-training amongst other specialities. We hope by our volunteers sharing information and their expertise they will provide the tools for disadvantaged communities to improve their chances of better livelihoods.
Books for Bangladesh
Our Resource Centre will be equipped with internet facilities and a free public-access library in Sylhet, Bangladesh. By providing regular access to books and other reading materials we hope to enhance literacy skills and create lifelong readers and learners. Currently only a small, elite sector of society can afford to purchase a computer. There are very few public institutions that provide internet access to the underprivileged. We hope to provide basic computer and internet training for visitors to our centre.
Women 2015
Economics, cultural bias and gender discrimination often exclude girls from educational opportunities in the developing world. Educating women is the most powerful and effective way to address global poverty – and the single best investment one can make. Our centre and library will take a particular interest in educating, motivating and inspiring women in Bangladesh.
