SeminarAcquisition of skills and possession of knowledge are important determining factors in how fast a community can develop. Although the transfer of skills and knowledge may appear to be straightforward, the methods and approach to teaching, and even the learning environment can have a large impact on a child’s ability to absorb information

One of the strongest determinants of the state of education in Bangladesh can be found in the percentage of the annual budget allocated to education.  UNESCO recommends that 7% of a country’s overall budget be reserved for education.  However by devoting 3% of its yearly budget to educational expenditures, Bangladesh falls severely below the recommended percentage. (Recommendation)

Due to the deficiency in economic resources reserved for education, Bangladesh educational system is facing a number of obstacles:

  • Schools are overcrowded
  • Lack of resources for teachers and students
  • Teacher training is scarce

There are few institutes for teacher training in Bangladesh and their focus is usually solely on the transmission of knowledge. Teachers-in-training get little opportunity to reflect in a supportive and systematic environment on their educational beliefs, classroom practices, objectives of education and relationships with peers, students and community. The education that is available to children in Bangladesh is usually rote and monotonous. Teaching staff are poorly trained and exempt from all accountability, especially in rural areas.

Our goals for 2010:

  • To provide a ‘train the trainer’ course which will equip the delegates that attend, with the core aspects of the educational theory, practice and pedagogy, which we here in the U.K learn during the PGCE year.
  • A two week intensive course planned to be delivered in its first year during Summer 2010.
  • Certification for all delegates who complete the course.
