About Us

About Selfless

Selfless is a diaspora-led social enterprise with a mission to create effective, sustainable solutions to the most pressing global health challenges through using the power of diaspora networks, ‘skillanthropy’ (skills-based volunteering) and social and technological innovation.

Founded in 2008 by Dr Naeem Ahmed, its inaugural mission to Bangladesh, with fellow medical students, served over 3,000 patients. It demonstrated the impact that a group of dedicated individuals can have in affecting change where it is needed most. Selfless has since directly provided over 50,000 of Bangladesh’s poorest with access to healthcare and indirectly served more than 200,000 people.

Selfless is deeply embedded in, and interlinked with, the local healthcare system in Bangladesh. Its ‘leadership in action’ model and close working with local leaders and communities to determine the scope of, and in delivering its programmes and interventions ensures innovative, sustainable and appropriate solutions to the most urgent issues.

Our programmes provide direct benefits through local healthcare provision and capacity-building in some of Bangladesh’s most vulnerable communities as well as indirect benefits of educational empowerment and skills development for international healthcare volunteers.
